Margot Madison Creative's Peace Clipboard in a fundraiser gift basket.

Since everyone seems to be doing gift baskets for their fundraisers, I thought I'd post this great theme for younger folks. This features the Margot Madison Mod Peace Clipboard. You can also personalize it with your school's name.

New products for sale on our etsy store

We've added these custom prints at the Margot Madison Stationery etsy store.

The modern animals series I created have been so popular that we extended the line to include customized prints. They are sized 8 x 10 to fit into a standard matte and/or frame. They are giclée printed on lightly textured cardstock for a high quality look and feel. Add the baby's name and birth stats and you have a charming memento and gift.

Handmade Journals and Pouches

We're excited to announce our first local artist selling wares at the store in O'Bryonville!

Kate Staiger crafts handmade books and pouches from recycled and upcycled materials.

Pieces of old hardcover books and found objects are sewn together to create new art objects. They contain blank, hand-cut paper inside, along with the occasional postcard or vintage bookplate. The books make lovely journals, and are a great gift paired with one of our pens--for around $20.

The pouches are great for keeping keys, cell phone, or lip gloss handy in your purse or bag. They are made of sturdy fabrics, and are embellished with buttons and hand-stitched designs. The pouches come in assorted sizes, and each design is entirely unique.

These items are available in-store only. Come in and check them out before they're gone!

The latest window design

Well, we've got the next Margot Madison Stationery window completed and I thought I'd share about it.

First, the inspiration photo was from one of my favorite blogs decor8. There was a simple photo of these books stacked as a decorative element in someone's home. I tucked it into my little folder of inspiration images and started the wheels turning.

Our marketing concept was to promote the great gifts our customers can purchase through albums and catalogs of customizable products. We ordered our samples to match the colors we would have in the window: yellows, oranges, and teal greens.

Then I set out to find lots and lots of books. My "mojo" was working for me, and I was able to walk to the "Friends of the Library" sales warehouse just down my street. After much explanation as to why I wanted old paperback books with no care for subject matter, they allowed me to rummage through the recycling bins of books they had. I wasn't sure yet what I would need and just loaded my little car up with as much as would fit. I'll return the books after the window is down and let them make a little money for the recycling. A special thanks to the "Friends of the Library" on that one!

Back to the window now. I rummaged through and put stacks together, taking care to choose the edges that were stained in the red, yellow, orange and teal colors. I used a little Elmer's glue to give them some stability, though they still have a little tendency to teeter a bit. I did buy some ink to stain the edges of some of the books as fill-ins. I set the product on the top of the stacks and was nearly done.

Then I bought a simple curtain panel to hang behind the books to give some more color an continuity to the window. I kept Lindsay's painted Margot Madison "panel" and wrote in the words "Gift ideas By the Books" to tie the window concept together. FYI, since I had to paint the window on the inside (which would be backwards to me) I used a dry erase marker on the outside to sketch out the words and then painted from that template on the inside. Of course, then I wiped off the dry erase on the outside for a clean finish.

St. Theresa's Textile Trove

St. Theresa's Textile Trove is one of the most wonderful places in Cincinnati, OH. I visit the store to gawk and drool over the huge variety of cotton and quilting fabrics, the large selection of oil cloth fabric, and walls and walls of beads and buttons. She's moved to a new location in College Hill, Cincinnati which is delightfully closer to where I live and where I drop my kids off to the babysitter. I last stopped by the new location around the holidays and my sister and I bought a bunch of felt balls. We still have not found the perfect project for them BUT WE WILL! Do you know how that is in stores so full of textile delights? Inspiration over-load! They do have lots of project ideas to spur your creative process along.

I should also mention that the women in the photo below were here that weekend to do a bead making class by the owner. The raved and raved about how wonderful it was and what a great girls weekend it made.

This is the kind of store you'd find in an New York City off-street in the garment district. If you live in Cincinnati or are visiting soon, you must make the trip there. Have a nice lunch at Bacalls and call it a creative afternoon...

Webbed Wallets

I have not figured out what to do for Father's Day this weekend, but that is not at all on my mind today! These are such great Father's Day gifts I had to pass this etsy seller along to you.

Out of Portland, Oregon, Rosewebs repurposes and reclaims lawn furniture webbing to make these colorful wallets and purses. The wallets are only $14!

Have a great weekend and be happy for the Dads of the world.

A great purse for Friday

For those of you who do not yet know, Etsy shopping is amazing shopping. There are the most wonderful designers (I mean, not just me ;o)) selling their hand made or created products. I've decided to share the love with you and post some of my favorite etsy folks on Fridays.

So today it is a favorite bag of mine. I haven't ordered it yet, because I believe in keeping a purse until it falls to shreds or becomes so filthy that I wouldn't let my kids use it anymore. BUT! I always keep my eye out for the next purse for me.

This is a wonderful purse that I keep coming back to. It's by the designer "Dalinda" and her etsy shop is called Plonka. These are probably very clever Norwegian words that are unfortunately lost on this American but if I had to guess a translation it would be: "awesome purses"

I love the clever insertion of the folksy pattered fabric in the middle. I like the subtle beige linen (at least I think it's linen). I like how it can add a splash of color to anything and I think red goes with everything. Of course, she's from Norway and I like all things Norse.

And it wouldn't be right if I didn't plug the Margot Madison esty shop. Have a great weekend!

Robotcha

This is what happens when great designers have kids! My friends in Chicago just started this entrepreneurial venture Robotcha and it just makes me giggle every time I look at these cool shirts. It might be because of those adorable kid models, or Shawn's talent at creating well-designed and humorous kids art, I don't know. It could also be because of the robot with ice cream fuel. In our house, where Madisono's gelato is king, these are going to be the ones we buy.
